Meet up more: turning your Pin My Map into real plans

8 September 2026 ยท 4 min read

Pin My Map exists so friendships survive distance. Our lives scatter. People move for work, for study, for a year that turns into four. Friendships that used to happen by accident now need someone to make the first move.

Pin My Map does the noticing. You still have to send the message. Here is what that looks like in practice.

Say something when someone is close

The most common reason friends miss each other is not distance, it is not knowing. Somebody had a layover in your city. Somebody was two hours away for a whole weekend. You both found out afterwards.

When Pin My Map shows a friend is going to be near you, say so straight away, even if the answer is no. A coffee between a train and a check-in still counts.

Ask before you book, not after

A friend who has been will tell you what no ranked list does. Which neighbourhood to actually stay in. Which famous thing is not worth the queue. The place they still think about.

Pin My Map tells you which friend that is. Ask them while your plans can still change.

Wishlist out loud

A dream destination sitting in your head helps nobody. On your Pin My Map wishlist it can find you company.

Someone who wants to go too. Or someone going in March who says come with me.

Keep the people you meet on the way

Add the people you cross paths with while travelling, and tag them for what they are. You do not have to share everything with everyone, which is what tags in Pin My Map are for.

Keeping a nice acquaintance on the map is how they get the chance to become an actual friend.

Go first

Almost everyone is glad to hear from someone who used to be close. Very few people send the message.

Be the one who does. Pin My Map has already done the hard part.
