Pin My Map for digital nomads: keeping the people, not just the places

29 September 2026 · 5 min read

Pin My Map is a private map of the people you know. It shows where each friend lives now, where they have already travelled, and where they are going next. For digital nomads, that last part is the one nothing else does.

Working remotely means your address book fills up faster than anyone else you know. Three months in Lisbon, six weeks in Mexico City, a winter in Bali, and every stop leaves you with people you genuinely liked.

The problem is what happens after. Everyone moves on. Nobody announces where to. Six months later you are in Medellín and you have no idea that the person you shared a desk with all spring is two streets away.

Why a contact list is not enough

A contact list tells you a name. Pin My Map tells you where that name currently is, where they have already been, and where they are heading next. For anyone whose friends are permanently in motion, that second thing is the useful one.

How digital nomads use Pin My Map

  • Before booking a month somewhere, open Pin My Map and see who else is there or passing through.
  • Ask the friend who already did three months in that city which neighbourhood is actually liveable. No listing site will tell you that.
  • Add the places you are considering to your wishlist. If someone is going to the same place, Pin My Map shows you both.
  • Pin the next base as a future trip before you book it, so the people already there know you are coming.

Tag people by how you met them

Nomad friendships do not fit the usual labels, so Pin My Map lets you invent your own tags. Make ones that match your actual life: people from that coworking space, people from the surf camp, the ones who also work European hours.

Then filter the map down to just that group when you need them. Tags are private, so nobody sees how you have labelled them.

Tags also keep the map honest. Somebody you met once and liked does not need to see your future trips. In Pin My Map you choose which tags can see each kind of pin. A narrow tag keeps them on the map without giving away your whole year.

The overlap is the point

Two people whose plans happen to cross is a coincidence. Two people who both find out about it in advance is a dinner.

Pin My Map only does the first half of that. The first half is the half nobody was doing.
